New “Your groups” Feature on Catalyst!

Launched today (July 25, 2023), the capabilities of the Catalsys platform expand yet again and—once again—the additional function comes at no additional cost!

Introducing Conversation Starters

Three new sections to guide your custom-built group in how to:

  • Get to know each other
  • Make decisions together
  • Communicate clearly

This article explores this new feature of “Your groups”. To learn more generally about the group mapping feature of Catalyst, see our article, The “Your groups Feature on Catalyst“.

Catalyst Conversation Starters

The Basics & Where to Find It

Your groups” on Catalyst allows anyone on the platform to create a group of up to 25 from the same Catalyst organization. A DiSC map of the group is displayed and three other panels of information are available: Style insights, Group insights and now Conversation starters.

The “Your groups” function is found on the Catalyst home page, just below the “Your colleagues” section. Anyone that has completed an Everything DiSC on Catalyst assessment has access to this feature.

What’s There & How to Use It

Each of the topics below share a similar format. There is an introduction page that explains the purpose of the section. This is followed by three screens that prompt discussion. The first two screens are based on two related continua (with each group member’s dot plotted). The third and final screen provides a discussion wrap-up and next steps. Here is the makeup of the three Conversation starters:

Conversation Starters – Get to know your team

This section explores how to work with a new team or how to get to know your existing team better. The sub-sections are:

  • Fast-paced vs. Steady-paced
  • Private vs. Outgoing
  • Next Steps

Conversation Starters – Make decisions together

This section looks at the group dynamics that may affect your decision-making process as a team. The sub-sections are:

  • Accommodating vs. Strong-willed
  • Skeptical vs. Accepting
  • Next Steps

Conversation Starters – Communicate Clearly

Teams that communicate better perform more effectively. In this section, you can examine the similarities and differences in how you and your teammates communicate and uncover suggestions on how to improve. The sub-sections are:

  • Tactful vs. Frank
  • Structured vs. Unstructured
  • Next Steps

“Conversation starters” as a Training Aid

The screens we have just described are meant to be used in driving discussions during meetings. There are three different topics, but each can be used multiple times with one group and, of course, you may create as many groups as you would like!
