Why Does EPIC Operate on Credits?

There is sometimes confusion around EPIC Credits. Why does EPIC, the DiSC® administration system, use credits? Why do some reports require 15 credits while others are 20, 25 or 35? Why can’t I just buy profiles.

These are great questions… so, let’s answer them!

Why not just buy profiles and reports?

Wouldn’t that be simpler?

I always use the (increasingly dated!) analogy of an arcade. Most arcade games don’t accept money. They take tokens. You turn dollars into tokens and then you can play whichever games you choose. More advanced games require more tokens.

This is advantageous because you can play any game you want until you run out of tokens. And usually, if you buy a large quantity of tokens, the cost per token is reduced.

EPIC credits mirror these benefits. You can create any profile or report, as long as you have enough credits. More advanced reports require more credits. And, if you buy in bulk, the cost per credit goes down.

While it may be simpler to purchase profiles and reports instead of credits, that simplicity comes at the cost of flexibility. You would have to be sure that you bought exactly the right number of the right product for any given initiative. But, inevitably, change would come. What if a planned training session that used “Workplace” suddenly needed to be a “Management” program? With the EPIC Credit system, the worst that could happen is that you need more credits or maybe you ended up with some extras.

Oops! I have some leftover credits!

Good News! EPIC Credits never expire. Which means you can hold onto them for the next initiative. Because these credits never expire, some of our clients purchase their expected credit usage an entire year in advance, in order to get the best pricing.

Oh, and EPIC Credits work for not only roughly 11 different DiSC profiles and reports, the can also be sued to create for any of The Five Behaviors® assessments and reports. If you end up with some extras, those could be used to explore other applications!

EPIC Credits = “Good Thing”

As you can see, the fact that EPIC operates on credits is a good thing. It’s completely flexible and can provide cost-savings through volume purchases.
